Something a little different today - STUDIO TOUR!
I thought it’d be good to show you what it looks like on the other side of the screen. Our workspace is in my home - a dedicated area that I can (usually) close the door to on Friday night and forget about til Monday morning.
When my business started, I played it really safe with buying things. I worked from my laptop in my tiny bedroom sitting on my bed (I cringe at the thought), had my printer stored in the wardrobe and had to pull it out and plug it in each time I wanted to use it, and had a stack of books and papers on my bedside table that were important but totally disorganised and I never wanted to look at or deal with them.
Finally, we moved house, I claimed a space to work from, and bit by bit I’ve invested in pieces. Now I’m more organised, I can get more work done (and faster), and I have really pleasant place to spend my days.
Here’s what I love about this space:
+ Big windows with morning + afternoon sun.
+ Upstairs, away from distractions (couch, tv, fridge, housework).
+ Space to spread out.
+ Enough storage to have a home for everything.
+ Air conditioner / heater.
+ View over the street of our crazy neighbors.
The thing is, you don’t have to have it all at once.
When I was working on my laptop, I bought the wireless keyboard so I could stack the laptop on books to reduce back ache. I then bought my iMac after about a year of business. The desk is a hand-me-down. I sat on a wooden Ikea chair for about 2 years (0% comfort and not good for posture). I bought the flat files / drawers about 2 years into working solo (and the smaller drawers only about 4 months ago).
I love how our workspace looks now and I’m totally grateful for the room I get to walk into every day. It’s also a good reminder of where I started (... and it makes for a much more pleasant space when working long hours).
